The internship program is for participants who are interested in
developing skills and knowledge as an arborist in the tree service industry.
The program provides participants ongoing theoretical training while at the
same time receiving practical training as an arborist.
All trainees are required to participate in seminars, classes, meetings and to complete assigned training projects. Trainees will receive
payment for their practical training/internship period. Compensation to the
trainee is in the form of an hourly wage of 7,5 GBP per hour. Based on a 40
hour per week training schedule, the trainee will receive around 15 000 GBP over the
course of the 12-month program.
Develop and demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge through a
series of training methods providing necessary theoretical knowledge in the
tree service industry.
Demonstrate mastery and understanding of theoretical knowledge gained
through training course work, on-site guidance and training from direct
supervisors through increased responsibilities and positive supervisor
evaluations.
Trainees must be at least 18 years old.
Trainees must have either a round-trip air ticket or sufficient funds for
return airfare for their home country.
Trainees must be able to demonstrate work experience in the tree service
industry or have significant educational background in the field of
training.
All trainees must have good English language skills.
A very important part of the training will involve the trainee learning to
inspect trees that are diseased or damaged, and using his knowledge from his
past studies, along with advice form his supervisor to evaluate the best
procedures to follow in respect of what to do with these trees, in other
words whether to fell or lop them or to treat them. Once the trainee has
offered recommendations and they have been reviewed by the supervisor who
will effect the necessary treatment for the tree.
The trainee will also visit customers on site and learn how to recommend the
proper treatment for damaged and diseased trees. This will involve all
aspects of climbing and inspecting trees for damage and disease, evaluating
the proper procedures for dealing with the problem, and effecting the cure
according to the needs of the tree and the wishes of the customer.
The program duration would be a maximum of 12 months. The particular
duration will be noted on the participants work permit.
Participants will receive significant pre-arrival information prior to their
arrival in the United Kingdom including a participant manual outlining participant responsibilities, rules, expectations, and advice
about living in the United Kingdom. Materials provided by the training site
supplement this.
